Qusai was born in the vibrant city of Zarqa, Jordan, known for its bustling industrial sectors but unfortunately challenged by low air quality.

Growing up amidst this environment has shaped his understanding of the pressing need for sustainable solutions to combat environmental degradation and promote healthier living conditions.

Qusai’s undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering provided him with a solid foundation in technical knowledge. Combined with over five years of experience in development of renewable energy projects and facilitating access to clean energy for vulnerable communities, Qusai’s passion for sustainable energy systems intensified. Witnessing the impact of sustainable measures on the lives of refugees in Jordan strengthened his resolve to pursue an MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems. Qusai is eager to develop clean energy investments that specifically cater to the needs of marginalised communities, thereby promoting inclusivity and environmental justice.

Qusai has actively engaged in extracurricular initiatives focused on raising awareness about climate change and empowering youth to advocate for global emission reduction and climate justice. Participating in these activities has enriched his understanding of the challenges facing the planet and has deepened his commitment to pursuing sustainable energy solutions that prioritise environmental well-being and social equity.

Qusai’s decision to study at the University of Edinburgh stems from its prestigious academic standing and diverse student body. The university's reputation for multidisciplinary education and its high research rankings makes it an ideal place to expand his network and collaborate with leaders from various backgrounds. The opportunity to engage with a culturally diverse community aligns perfectly with my goal of fostering a global perspective on sustainable energy systems.

Post his studies, Qusai aims to dedicate his expertise to the crucial task of decarbonising energy systems. His focus will be on designing sustainable solutions and creating green investments that not only promote environmental health but also generate sustainable opportunities for the youth within local communities. His ultimate goal is to contribute meaningfully to the global effort of building a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
